Palmetto Girls Sing

What is Palmetto Girls Sing?

Palmetto Girls Sing is a girls’ choir that serves girls in grades 4-8 in Greenwood, SC and its surrounding areas. Palmetto Girls Sing seeks to enrich the lives of girls through diverse and high quality choral music. An emphasis is placed on the joy of singing and its importance in our world.  Palmetto Girls Sing offers girls opportunities for personal, social, spiritual and artistic growth as the girls learn vocal technique, vocal health, music reading and performance skills.  Palmetto Girls Sing presents its music, both sacred and secular, to the glory of God.  As an outreach of First Presbyterian Church, Palmetto Girls Sing is a non-profit organization.

When and where will Palmetto Girls Sing meet?

Palmetto Girls Sing will meet from 5:00 pm -6:30 pm every Monday in the choir room at First Presbyterian Church:

108 Cambridge Avenue East.  Our year will begin in September and end in May.  We will kick-off our year with a party on Monday, August 31.

When will Palmetto Girls Sing perform?

We will give two formal concerts each year.  We will also sing in the community upon invitation.

What is required for admission?

We require a registration form, a reference form and an audition.  The auditions are on Sunday, August 23 and Monday, August 24.  The audition is not intimidating.  Three local music teachers will ask each girl a few questions about herself, and ask her to echo some basic rhythmic and melodic patterns.  Each girl will sing one song by herself.  Girls can choose from “Happy Birthday to You,” “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” or “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”  After auditions are complete, we will send a letter to let the girls know the results of the audition.

What is the cost for participating in Palmetto Girls Sing?

The cost for an entire season of singing in Palmetto Girls Sing is $200.  We will collect $100 in September and $100 in January.  This fee covers the cost of music, a choir t-shirt, an accompanist for the group and other miscellaneous expenses.  Special arrangements for tuition payments will be considered.  Please contact Amy Fennell.
