As you browse through these pages you will find
that we are a congregation committed to answering Christ's call
to "make disciples." We seek to grow disciples of Jesus
Christ in five ways: Worship, Service, Education, Evangelism and Fellowship.
First Presbyterian Church offers a broad range of ministries and programs
for all age groups. If you live or are visiting in the Greenwood area and
are looking for a church to attend, we invite you to stop by and worship with us.
Our Sunday Worship Services are at 9:00 and 11:00 AM. If you would
like to know more about any of our ministries, missions or educational opportunities
please call the church office.

Continuing in the Prison
|
Many of you have asked about the times between the four day weekend visits to the prison when
you provide the cookies and prayers. Each month on the second Saturday, we return from
8:00AM to noon and sometimes to 2:30PM, to visit with those who have gone through one of our
weekends. The times depend on what the prisons will allow. These visits are also structured
much like the four day visits. We take coffee and sweet rolls in with us and visit with
about 150 inmates. This is the largest gathering allowed in the prisons.

KIRKIN' O' THE TARTAN SERVICE August 30th
We will celebrate our heritage in an exciting way! This is also Celebration Sunday when we "kick off" the CE year!
Did you know that the Presbyterian denomination has its roots in Scotland? You will be hearing much more about our heritage in the next few months.
In the meantime, why not check out John Knox (yes, he really was a person!) and "The Scots Confession of Faith."
What is the ceremony of Kirking of the Tartans? It is American in origin, though based on Scottish history.
Scotland came under British rule following the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
The Scots were not allowed to wear their tartans (or family plaid) which represented Scottish heritage, for 50 years.
The stubborn Scots would secretly carry a piece of their tartan to the Kirk (church) where the minister would slip in a blessing (a Kirkin').
Are you interested in helping plan the service? Think bag pipes, harps, plaids, John Knox, etc. Alice and John Powers have agreed to chair the planning committee.
If you would like to be a part of this fun, hard working committee, contact the Powers (391-2648) as soon as possible.
The CE committee and the worship committee will also be involved. Come join us! It will be fun (and a lot of work!!)
